Growing up in Asian household many years ago, my motivation has always been fear.
Fear of making any mistakes,
fear of getting scolded,
fear of disappointing parents,
fear of what others may think of us.
These were some of the fears that drove me to make sure I do not fail.
It wasn’t a good way, I feel, to use fear as a motivation in life. Maybe for certain situation. But if I have to use fear to get the job done everyday, I think I might not be mentally and emotionally healthy in the long run.
Now, I think I am more inclined to use desires as a motivation. The desires that are appropriate in achieving my goals.
Desire to give the best I can to my family,
desire to be able to travel,
desire to make a name for myself,
desire to bring pride to my loved ones,
desire to be in Jannah with my loved ones surrounding me.
Fueling these desires keep me on the proper path to bring positive energy into my daily life processes. Be thoughtful in what I am doing for myself, my family and the people I am constantly with.
Fears or Desires? I choose desires. It is the best fit for me in most situations. What about you? What motivates you? Fears or Desires? Do share!
