Local Business Shoutout: Little Charms Creation

It is really nice to see young people delving into business. Starting one in Singapore is not easy and takes a whole lot of heart. So whenever I see someone young venture into the world of business, I find that very brave. And that is how I view Charmaine when I got to know her. She chose a path that is less chosen.

Our December's Local Business Shoutout goes to Charmaine and her business, Forever Charms. Let find a little bit more about this girl and why she started her business.

Hi Charmaine, could you share a little about yourself and Forever Charms.

I’m a very kind and sweet girl as long as I’m not provoked. Sometimes I will hide things from people because some truths cannot be told.

Initially I started a jewellery business. But unfortunately it fail badly at that time. I still feel I want to do jewellery like bracelets and decided to venture into creating them. It seems more personal and I can flow in a creative way.

Can you describe the moment you decided to become a business owner?

I was very scared and insecure as becoming a business owner is not easy. But my needs to do this was very overwhelming and this pushes me to decide that I have to start something for my future. It took a lot of self encouragement.

What do you tell yourself to stay motivated in what you do?

Be happy. I will always remind myself not to be bothered with what others say. Telling myself that I can do it no matter what, no matter where.

What is the routine you set for yourself everyday?

I don't really have a particular set of routine. But I know the importance of resting well. As long as you are not rested enough, things cannot be done properly.

What are some of the obstacles you faced while building your business?

Finance. It is the toughest portion. I need to make enough to roll back the money and pay myself. With handmade stuffs, I will have to pay for supplies first before earning anything. So that is a tough one for me.

And dealing with people who are not supportive in what I am doing. It is not so much their support. But having to listen to the negativity is quite hard.

What are the most rewarding aspects of doing what you do?

That I am able to do what I love everyday. Despite the challenges, I am glad that I get to create products for people. Seeing them love and appreciate the products I make is truly worth every challenge.

Who are your role models?

My parents. Family means the world to me. Without them, I wouldn't be where I am and being able to do a business. I really look up to a few TikTokers.

What tools, systems, books or resources would you recommend to all business owners?

Haha... For me, my main source is TikTok. You can get a lot of inspiration there. A lot of videos on how to create new products. And it is also a platform that I will actively sell my products on, especially for doing LIVE.

How do you find inspiration and creativity?

Most of the time, I try to go with my gut. It has to flow naturally. It will come.

What advice will you give to business owners/freelancers?

Don’t give up on your dream. Keep moving forward. Eventually, you get to where you want to be.

What is the future going to be like for you?

I plan to do more booths and events. I am hoping that I am able to conduct classes one day for anyone who wants to learn how to make bracelets.
